Developing countries suspicious of the West
Climate change negotiators are working hard to rescue plans for a global climate change deal at the Copenhagen Summit, reported the BBC.
Several issues remain unresolved ahead of the summit's climax. Poorer countries are suspicious that rich ones are not doing committed to stiff greenhouse gas emissions cuts. This prompted a walk-out on Monday (December 14), said the BBC.
Negotiators hope that with the end of the summit looming, minds will be focused, concessions will be made and a deal struck.
In one positive move, China indicated it would not take a single dollar from a fund set up by the rich world to help poorer countries tackle climate change, according to the broadcaster.
