Risk managers have the chance to win a dream trip to the US thanks to a new award from RIMS.

The Risk Revolution Delegate Award, newly launched by the RIMS Australasia chapter, will be won by a risk or insurance professional in Australia or New Zealand with the best ‘Thought Leadership Submission’.

The prize – a trip to Philadelphia for the International RIMS Conference and Exhibition on 23-26 April 2017 – includes conference admission, return flights, accommodation in “The City of Brotherly Love”, plus a year membership to RIMS.

Entrant’s submissions must demonstrate true thought leadership, be on the topic of ‘disruption and risk’, and be between 1,000 and 1,500 words.

StrategicRISK spoke with Kevin Bates (pictured), group head of risk and insurance of Lendlease, and president of RIMS Australasia, to discover how risk and insurance professionals can win the prize.

“The winner will show some innovative thought leadership in their entry,” he said.

“Risk management is at an exciting time right now, and the winning entry will, hopefully, draw out this innovation and have the RIMS Australasia board feeling like they have captured lightening in a bottle. No pressure!

“As for the topic, we have no anchoring bias at all. We are truly excited to see what comes through.”

Bates said the new competition is part of a refresh by the RIMS Australasia board in how they cross-fertilise the global offering of RIMS.

“It is a magnificent opportunity for a RIMS member to be involved in what is a leading risk management conference,” he said.

“The thought leadership, education and networking which the winner will be exposed to is remarkable. An opportunity which cannot be understated or missed.”

Applicants must submit the entry by midnight 2 March and the winner will be notified by 10 March.
