Product development and distribution channels the priorities, says Browne

The first day of 2014 will also be Glen Browne’s first as head of ACE Insurance’s Asia-Pacific accident and health business.

New Zealand-born Browne (pictured) moves from his current role as country president of ACE Thailand, a position he has held since July 2012.

Prior to that, Browne was chief executive of Cigna Europe and chief marketing officer of MetLife Alico between 2007 and 2012.

Browne first worked for ACE in New Zealand as the national commercial business manager in 2000. He joined the insurer’s regional headquarters in Singapore as the regional small and medium enterprises manager for Asia in 2002.

In 2003, he was appointed as general manager for Taiwan where he was responsible for the distribution of accident and health products through multiple channels across Taiwan.

Browne told StrategicRISK recently that he had been fortunate to work with several outstanding business partners over the past few years.

“Like our partners, we understand the importance of delivering compelling solutions to consumers across the fast growing markets in Asia,” he said. “The execution and delivery of such solutions will be even more important as we progress to the next stage of product development and the evolution of our distribution channels.”

Browne takes over from Juan Luis Ortega who succeeded Damien Sullivan as regional president of ACE’s Asia-Pacific franchise in October. The move meant Sullivan became chairman of the company’s Asia-Pacific division.

Ortega said that Browne’s record as a growth leader coupled with his strong regional exposure would hold him in good stead in his new role. “As we continue to diversify our distribution channels, Glen’s success in engaging distribution partners and delivering the best which ACE has to offer in terms of data analytics and customer management, will position us well in the accident and health business as a partner of choice,” he said.
