Islamic insurance specialist joins broker’s Malaysia team

Treaty reinsurance and takaful specialist, Razi Sulaiman (pictured), has joined Miller in Malaysia.

The former senior manager in Uni.Asia Insurance’s reinsurance department will be responsible for growing Miller’s treaty and facultative book, focusing on Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia.

The former chief executive of JLT Specialty Asia, Simon Weaver, who joined Miller as head of Asia last month, said that Sulaiman was a “multi-skilled individual”. “We anticipate significant growth in the takaful sector, and he will help us to further develop our presence in this arena,” Weaver said.

Head of energy and member of Miller’s partnership board Julian Taylor said that Miller had enjoyed strong growth in the Asia-Pacific region in recent years, which he attributed to a “focused and disciplined approach” to sourcing business. “Our model is very much about working with independent local brokers as we believe that creates a more dynamic process for our clients,” he said. “It’s a point of differentiation for us.”

Miller has offices in Kuala Lumpur, as well as Singapore and Hong, which Taylor said are needed due to the cities’ importance as insurance centres and also to service the needs of the company’s reinsurance treaty and cedant fac clients in South-East and north Asia.
