The Institute of Risk Management (IRM) new APAC global ambassador, Gareth Byatt, speaks exclusively with StrategicRISK about his plans for the region.

This week, the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) appointed Risk Insight Consulting principal consultant, and regular StrategicRISK contributor, Gareth Byatt as their new Global Ambassador for Australia and the Asia Pacific region.

We spoke to Byatt in the days following the announcement to hear his thoughts and plans for the region.

“It is a pleasure and an honour to be part of the Global Ambassadors network for the IRM. We have a broad network of IRM members across Asia and Australia (and elsewhere around the world), and I look forward to collaborating with my fellow IRM Global Ambassadors - Saman Bandara who is covering Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, and Sonjai Kumar and Abhishek Paul who are covering India - to help spread knowledge about the IRM services that are available.

”There may be an opportunity to establish a virtual IRM APAC Regional Interest Group. We shall see what our options could be.
I hope I can assist the IRM in my Ambassador role to liaise with other Risk Institutes and Groups across the region for collaboration and knowledge sharing, as we jointly shape the future of our profession (including the work of the IRM’s Risk Agenda 2025), and to discuss and collaborate on services such as training and certification in risk management.

”I hope also that I can extend visibility and awareness to IRM members across Asia and Australia of the Special Interest Groups that the IRM operates. These Groups hold regular meetings and events, with people able to join from around the world. They include web-based knowledge sharing events, and many have members from several places around the world. I find that it is very worthwhile to liaise with fellow IRM Risk practitioners on Special Interest Groups topics that are shaping the future of risk management.”

I look forward to continuing to work with all of my IRM colleagues and members and to helping people across Australia and the Asia Pacific region to leverage the services that the IRM provides.
