Super Typhoon Usagi threatening to disrupt festival weekend
Reports indicate that Super Typhoon Usagi is expected to make landfall near Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou on Sunday and Monday, 22 and 23 September.
A Marsh Risk Consulting advisory points out that because of the mid-autumn festival, many businesses may not have had the chance to conduct appropriate preparations.
“Companies with business interests in the area should monitor the storm’s progress carefully over the weekend,” the advisory recommends.
Hong Kong Observatory’s storm tracker (pictured) indicates that the massive storm is on course to hit land just kilometres from Hong Kong.
At midday, the storm was situated about 700km north-east of Manila. It is forecast to move north-west at about 18km/h, with winds of more than 200km/h expected to bring torrential rain and destruction to property.
